Chicago To Close 54 Public Schools

The largest single group of campus closings in recent memory was announced by Chicago Public Schools officials yesterday, the New York Times reports. Officials estimate savings of up to $560 million over 10 years by reducing investment in the closed buildings, but critics say school closings disproportionally affect minorities and the poor. Chicago is the third-largest school district in the country.
