A judge has blocked the state from pulling $250 million in funding for city schools by Gov. Cuomo because city officials failed to secure a deal with the teachers’ union on implementing a teacher rating system. WNYC reports that the judge “granted a preliminary injunction because he said the plaintiffs had a strong enough case to proceed.” The plaintiffs, mostly parents in addition to Upper Manhattan City Council Member Robert Jackson, argued that the loss of funds would have a great negative impact on the quality of their children’s education. The state disagreed that any real damage would be done and plans to appeal.
