Last week, Diane Ravitch spoke out against a Newsweek piece that denounced comedian Louis C.K.’s views on Common Core.
C.K. made comments in late April about his daughters’ education, claiming that they “used to love math.” He continued to denounce the test questions on the math exam given at his daughters’ school. “Now [math] makes them cry,” C.K. said. “Thanks standardized testing and Common Core.”
The Newsweek article, published on May 1, defends Common Core and points out alleged flaws in C.K.’s arguments. Ravitch, however, wrote a response to the article, citing inaccuracies in the reporting and confusion over teacher’s unions’ view on Common Core. Read her opinion here.
