That’s what researchers in New York City are trying to figure out.
The study—which seeks to determine what actually works in a pre-k classroom—will last more than six years and cost $25 million. It’s being financed by the Robin Hood Foundation, and will track 4,000 children who enter prekindergarten in 69 schools and community-based organizations next fall. It will follow them through at least the third grade. Half of them will get the curriculum, called Building Blocks, and the other half will not.
Building Blocks is a previously successful pre-k math curriculum created by professors at the University of Denver.
