Romney says education department would stay

The forerunner for the Republican presidential nomination, Mitt Romney, says he would not eliminate the Department of Education as a cabinet-level department, if elected in November. He might, however, merge it with another agency, the Christian Science Monitor reported. In the past, Romney has supported cutting the department, which was created in 1980.
