South Dakota Will Permit Teachers to Carry Firearms

South Dakota became the first state to pass a law that explicitly allows teachers to carry guns at school, the New York Times reported on Friday. Some other states already have provisions in their laws that permit teachers to carry guns but South Dakota is the only one to have a specific law authorizing the practice. The change come amid a nation-wide debate on school safety after 20 children were killed in an elementary school shooting in Newtown, Conn., three months ago.
