The Over-Billing by a New York Special Ed Pre-K Private Contractor Points to a Larger Problem in Sector Funding and Regulation

Bilingual SEIT, a New York City special ed pre-K provider lost its contract with the NYC Department of Education after years of misusing funds and providing poor service, reports the New York Times. The company, which provides services to pre-schoolers with developmental disabilities, billed more than $17 million in the 2011-2012 school year to the city and state, up from $725,000 it had billed a decade earlier, according to the investigative report.
