At three separate hearings last night, Department of Education representatives reprised their rationale for closing the schools, while school supporters aired their frustrations with the process. At P.S. 73 in Brooklyn, only a handful of parents spoke out to defend the school, and left with questions unanswered. Freedom Academy High School supporters urged DOE representatives to look at their six-year graduation rates and unique student body as markers of success. And at J.H.S. 13 Jackie Robinson, the principal urged the DOE to give him more time to turn the school around. School-Stories.org reporters Nell Gluckman, Rula Al-Nasrawi and Amanda Cedrone covered the hearings for Gothamschools.org.
